President Donald Trump reshared a post on Truth Social over the weekend, calling former First Lady Michelle Obama “anti-White” and “racist,” escalating rhetoric just two weeks after his account amplified a video depicting the Obamas as apes.
On Saturday (February 21), Trump reposted a message from far-right figure Laura Loomer criticizing Netflix and warning against a potential merger involving the company. In that post, Loomer referred to Michelle Obama as an “anti-White racist” and suggested that she and former President Barack Obama’s production company, Higher Ground Productions, would influence content on the platform.
Trump did not distance himself from the claim. Instead, he added his own message attacking Susan Rice, former national security adviser to President Obama and a current Netflix board member.
“Netflix should fire racist, Trump Deranged Susan Rice, IMMEDIATELY, or pay the consequences,” Trump wrote.
The repost comes shortly after Trump’s Truth Social account shared a video that ended with Barack and Michelle Obama’s faces edited onto the bodies of apes while the song, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” played. The clip was removed following backlash from both Democrats and some Republicans.
Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina publicly criticized the video at the time, saying he was “praying” it was fake and calling it “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.” The White House later blamed an unnamed staffer for posting it, but Trump rejected the idea that an apology was necessary.
“No, I didn’t make a mistake,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One when asked about the incident. He also confirmed that no staffers were fired or disciplined over the post.
The timing of Trump’s latest repost overlaps with recent remarks from Rice during a February 19 podcast appearance with former U.S. attorney Preet Bharara. Rice warned corporations that decisions made under political pressure could face scrutiny in a future administration.
“If these corporations think that the Democrats, when they come back in power, are going to play by the old rules… I think they’ve got another thing coming,” Rice said, adding that companies should preserve documents and be prepared for potential subpoenas if wrongdoing occurred.
To note, there is no record of Michelle Obama making statements advocating anti-White ideology. As First Lady from 2009 to 2017, her public initiatives focused on health, education, and military families.
Neither Michelle Obama nor Higher Ground Productions has responded publicly to Trump’s repost.
