A Texas man has been arrested after admitting to killing his Black fiancée and sleeping next to her corpse for days.
According to PEOPLE, William Joseph Oddo III was arrested on June 2 on charges of murder and evidence tampering in connection with the death of his fiancée, LeVera Wardell.
Oddo's arrest came after Wardell was found shot dead in her apartment on May 19 following a resident's report of a "very foul smell."
According to his arrest affidavit, Oddo admitted to shooting Wardell in the head on May 6 amid a heated exchange, during which the man claimed she came at him with a knife.
Oddo allegedly slept next to Wardell's corpse "for a full three days" before he was captured on security footage purchasing cleaning supplies. The man fled the apartment soon after a neighbor reported the foul smell on May 19.
"I wanted to lay with her," Oddo allegedly told Denton police of his fiancée's decomposing body.
Wardell's official cause of death is still pending a full toxicology report from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner. Oddo is currently in custody on a $160,000 bond.
