America the beautiful...and isn't that the truth?

The U.S. is filled with stunning locations that appeal to locals and travelers alike. These destinations are often so breathtaking that they become tourists attractions and go on to be considered world-renowned sites.

California is specifically known for its local wonders, but what lands these glorious destinations on a list of the most beautiful places in the nation?

Be it originality, cultural significance, breathtaking architecture, or natural beauty, something about the locations we're going to discuss today set them apart from other popularly visited spots across the country.

According to a list compiled by House Beautiful, the most beautiful places in California are the Golden Gate Bridge (ranking 5th), Big Sur, and San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts.

Other locations on the list of the "most beautiful place in the United States you need to visit asap" include New York City, Kerry Park in Seattle, and Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona, to name a few.

Here's what House Beautiful had to say about the most beautiful places to visit in California:

Golden Gate Bridge:

"There are plenty of beautiful places to see in San Francisco, but the Golden Gate Bridge is possibly the most iconic. If you find yourself in the city, make sure to also stop by the Painted Ladies, a colorful stretch of Victorian houses that are still owned by locals."

Big Sur:

"Your great American road trip wouldn't be complete without a drive along the Big Sur coastline in California. This Pacific Coastline highway, a portion of Highway 1, runs along a 71-mile stretch and you can drive from San Fransisco to Los Angeles on it. Prepare to see some of the most amazing natural scenery of your life."

Palace of Fine Arts:

"No, this isn't in Greece—the Palace of Fine Artsis sitting on a hillside with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, so you can view two of the most beautiful places in the U.S. in one go. Designed by architect Bernard Maybeck, this Greco-Roman structure was built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition and was meant to be torn down after the fair. However, it thankfully wasn't and can now be visited and rented out for events."
