Elementary School Art Teacher Lets Students Decorate Her Dress

An art teacher's dress was the star of the show during the annual District Art Show at McAuliffe Elementary School in Highland Village, Texas. Rebecca Bonner showed up wearing a white dress that was decorated with artwork from the 580 students she teaches.

Last year, Bonner decided to let students design her dress, so she purchased a plain white dress on Amazon and let each of the kids draw one picture on it.

"My kids loved taking part in designing my dress," Bonner told CNN. "We talked about how we had to be respectful of each other's artwork and chose images that I would like on my dress. I loved watching my kids design it."

Bonner wore the dress last year and decided that she would wear it again during this year's art show. Her daughter, Charlece Lake, shared a photo of her mother showing off the dress on Twitter, and it quickly went viral, generating over 100,000 likes and over 12,000 retweets.

my mom is the cutest art teacher ever!! She made a dress and had every one of her students draw one thing on the dress for her to wear. This was her at her student’s art show tonight. IM SOBBING

Bonner told ABC News that she was shocked when the photo went viral but is happy that her story is helping promote art education.

"I’m not worried about being famous or anything like that, but I do think it's great to promote the arts because elementary art is not everywhere," she said. "I think it's really important for kids to have that outlet, to have that place to create, and that freedom to create."

Bonner says that the kids were excited when she wore the dress for a second time and now her younger students want a chance to create a new dress for her to wear at the school's end of the year art show.
