National Board Of Review Names 'Da 5 Bloods' The Best Movie Of 2020

Spike Lee, Chadwick Boseman, Jonathan Majors, Delroy Lindo and the entire cast of Da 5 Bloods were honored by the National Board of Review this week. The National Board of Review honored the film as the best of 2020.

Da 5 Bloods is not only a unique portrait of the experience and lingering trauma of Black Vietnam War veterans, but also a moving story of enduring friendship, a suspenseful jungle treasure hunt, and a powerful reckoning with the American dream,” National Board of Review President Annie Schulhof told Deadline.

Da 5 Bloods is Lee's latest work. The film chronicles the journey of four war veterans returning to Vietnam for the first time since they departed as young adults. This time around, they are in search of a buried shipment of gold that was left during the war. During their journey, the group confronts past trauma, armed enemies and much more.

Delroy Lindo shines as Paul, a disgruntled veteran suffering from PTSD. The film also marks one of the final performances from Chadwick Boseman. The late actor plays the role of Stormin' Norman, the 5 Bloods leader who was gunned down during a battle in the Vietnam War. Both Boseman and Lindo are earning Oscar buzz for their performances.

“We are also honored to present the posthumous NBR Icon Award to Chadwick Boseman, an extraordinary talent who represented the best of what an actor could be no matter what the role.” Schulhof said.

In addition to winning "Best Film," Da 5 Bloods won "Best Assemble." Lee also took home the "Best Director" prize. The film's win will set for a possible run at this year's Academy Awards in April.
