Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told Joe Heim in an exclusive interview with The Washington Post that she is "not for impeachment," because she does not think impeaching Trump would be good for the country.
"Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it."
It's the "bipartisan" part that matters the most; she knows that not only would Trump's supporters not believe anything that came out of the hearings but if it appears Trump is being attacked, it will bolster his support for 2020, so why risk it when the republican-controlled Senate wouldn't oust Trump anyway. And that's true, but speaking of truth, it'd be nice to know it.
Speaking on behalf of The White House, the response from Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was that people shouldn't get in trouble if they're doing their job well.
"Impeachment should never be on the table, because the president is doing a great job."
Pelosi also told Heim that she doesn't think Trump is fit to be president, and the country can withstand anything except Trump being reelected. She seems hyper-focused on the 2020 election.
I hope she doesn't think congress should head down the impeachment path because she knows we're about to merge onto the indictment highway.
