Chuck Grassley and Christine Blasey Ford exchange letters

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford wrote a letter on Saturday to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley detailing her motivation for coming forward with sexual assault accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

"When I first learned that Brett Kavanaugh was on the short-list of nominees to fill a Supreme Court vacancy, prior to the President's selection among a list of what seemed to me as similarly-qualified candidates, I contacted my Congressperson's office in an attempt to provide information that could be useful to you and the President when making the selection from among a list of candidates."

She wanted to keep the information confidential...

"My original intent was first and foremost to be a helpful citizen - in a confidential way that would minimize collateral damage to all families and friends involved."

...probably because she knew the backlash, the threats and disruption of life for her family, that would come if she were to go public. She details the backlash that has come with going public in the letter.

Ford and Kavanaugh are scheduled to testify about the accusations on Thursday.

Senator Grassley sent her his own letter Monday in response.

He signed his name "Chuck." Just "Chuck." No last name. That's weird, right?
